AT&T Corp, (T)
Market Call™ for September 15, 1998
Contributed by Mark Seleznov,
TrendTrader.com.

The purpose of this Market Call section is to educate readers in technical analysis patterns and indicators. As with all investment information, you need to research information and consult your financial advisor before initiating any strategies that are contained in Market Call.

Also, you must realize that as with all trading strategies, opinions can change quickly depending on market conditions and developments.

MACD Indicator

AT&T, T, has now moved back above its 50 day moving average. T has moved from negative momentum to positive momentum. It has also given a Buy signal on the MACD indicator.

Gerald Appel developed the MACD indicator. The indicator is the difference between a 12 period and a 26 period exponential moving average. The signal line is a 9 period moving average of this indicator. The MACD can be used in a number of ways. I like to wait for the MACD line (see black line below) to start moving up and cross the signal (see red line below) line.

The MACD indicator can be a good trend following method, especially when combined with other indicators. I find that the best signals are from very overbought or very oversold levels in a stock.

I would Buy T at this level. There is some resistance at 58 and at 60 on the chart. Therefore, as always it is important to use a stop with all trades. I would place my stop at 55.
